Did you know it is illegal to pick these velvet beauties in California? We see them blooming during certain times of the year along highway 50 between Sacramento and Placerville. They are the epitome of looking delicate but oh so strong. I photographed this one in my backyard. Randy planted seeds in an area next to a rock wall where the soil is poor and dry and everything else would wither and die; did I mention strong?
I am so grateful for good friends! Denise painted this old platter for me with chalkboard paint one day when I wasn't feeling up to going to the class. Believe me when I say it has been well used. It welcomes guests, seasons, every holiday and any other occasion I can think of.
I'm quite sure when we were standing in line for "drawing abilities" my friend Jennie and I were talking instead of paying attention and I accidentally gave her mine. While she has it oozing out of her little finger; I am still of the belief that we should never quit trying. I can't wait to buy some "chalk pens".
And besides, in your own cottage you are the queen and head decorator, and anything homemade goes.
